1:1 Lulu Botley
Co-Founder of Bots Gardens
What was it that inspired/motivated you to start Bots Gardens?
I have a background in interior design, where I discovered that the elements of nature and the garden have a big influence on my creativity. I love the idea of blending indoor and outdoor spaces, transforming the garden into an extension of your living area.
I wanted to make gardens more accessible to everyone and help people understand the process of creating and maintaining their own outdoor spaces.
How would you describe your signature aesthetic?
It really depends on the client’s style, as well as what they are trying to get out of the space. Every project is very unique, however I try to create cozy, eclectic spaces, blending the charm of the old with the freshness of the new.
Do you have a favourite project that you have worked on to date?
One project that stands out is a beautiful pair of roof terraces in Notting Hill. The clients were wonderful, and we had the pleasure of collaborating with the talented interior designer, Katie Harbison. While the project posed a challenge due to its location at the top of four flights of stairs, we loved the end result —a serene oasis in the clouds!
What is your favourite thing about London?
I love that everything is right on your doorstep—there’s always something to do or something new to discover
What do you love the most about your work?
I enjoy the creative aspect of the work, and I find it exciting that each project is unique, offering fresh challenges and opportunities.
Are there any particular places that you’re really drawn to or excited by?
Being in nature inspires me, I love Cornwall and spent a lot of time there growing up so think it is always inspiring.
I also love travelling around different countries; exploring local markets,
wandering new neighbourhoods and learning new cultures as a new source of inspiration.
Any upcoming projects you’d like to share?
We are working on quite a few commercial spaces at the moment, doing internal planting schemes. I really like these projects are they transform the space so quickly.
